Celebrating almost 50 years of service to children with emotional challenges.

Extended School Year

Reed Academy offers an extended school year program for 6 weeks during the summer. The academic enriched, yet camp-like, 6 week program helps to maintain structure and prevent regression that may occur during summer months. Students love our summer program as it offers all of the fun and excitement of a traditional summer camp with activities such as swimming, fishing, a Wheelock Family Theater workshop, and outdoor sports.

The program offers a clinically oriented atmosphere which provides supervised precreational activities and learning experiences designed to promote self-esteem and emotional well-being. During our summer program, all students participate in group therapy sessions.

Enrollment

Reed Academy extends opening for their summer program from all surrounding towns and welcome students who would like to exclusively attend the summer portion of our program. The program is perfect for those looking for a structured, academic, therapeutic, and fun summer experience. We encourage those seeking a program for students will an extended year IEP to visit our program and see all of the wonderful things we have to offer!

Activities

A child will participate in the activities mapped out in his own individual plan designed to meet his own specific needs. This plan will include a variety of well-supervised programs. These might include instruction in math, science, and reading, arts & crafts, nature, self-help skills, fishing, music, games, adaptive physical education, instructional and free swim, group therapy sessions and other therapeutic esteem-building skills. The outside (although we have classrooms for inclement weather) in a very creative, low threatening way. The sole purpose for the integration of some academics in our activities is so our students don’t show any regression when they return to school in the fall.

Tuition

Tuition for the six-week session is determined for each year. We accept Sole Source Funding from the Public Schools. All tuition must be paid in full before the child begins in the program.

Medical

Our summer program does not provide a health insurance policy, nor we be held responsible for payment of an injury that may occur to a child during the day or during transportation to and from home. For that reason, each child is required to provide his own medical coverage.
